At Countryside, we use the Leadership Team model for governing the affairs of the church. These volunteers have been chosen and elected from among our membership by our congregation to guide the spiritual, physical and financial health of our church:
Mark Higgins, Chair
Mark comes to us via New York, Ohio, California and finally Oregon in 1989. He and his wife Jennie started attending CCC in 2012, along with their five children and currently live in Newberg. Mark and his daughter Catherine were part of our Rwanda team last January. Mark has been an active volunteer in our youth programs, participates in Men’s Bible studies, and his wife Jennie has been on the Women’s Bible Study teaching team. Hiking is one of Mark’s favorite activities, and his favorite verse is Hebrews 4:12. He looks forward to serving on the Leadership Team and is hoping to use his skills and talents to further the Kingdom of God here at Countryside.
David Rummerfield, Vice Chair
David and his wife of 46 years, Paula, are the type of people you look forward to “running into” every Sunday – always enthusiastic, encouraging, welcoming and loving. David also has a great sense of humor. When he and Paula were first saved, they were what you might call “fired-up” Christians; sharing the Gospel every chance they had. However, many of their friends and family just thought they were annoying and tried to keep their distance. But they are thankful that most of them are either walking faithfully with the Lord now, or have gone home to be with Him. Since those early days, God has allowed David to take a few unnecessary detours in his walk, but never let him get very far off track before leading him back. He also thankfully admits that after nearly 46 years of marriage, God has often used Paula as his “navigation system.” David has always looked to Micah 6:8 as the essence of his walk with the Lord.
Lisa Jones, Secretary
Lisa and her husband Frank have been members at CCC for 16 years, and live in Sherwood. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. Lisa spent 32 years teaching, and Frank was an electrician for the public school system for 27 years. Lisa is very active at CCC leading Bible studies, with the prayer team and as a Welcome Table host. Lisa enjoys hiking, kayaking, book club, gardening and family time- especially being a grandma!
Lisa Burton, Financial Officer
As our Financial Officer, Lisa is responsible for financial reporting, policies and procedures. She’s also a member of our Business and Finance Team, which deals with the administrative side of running a church. When not rafting down some class 5 or 6 rapids, Lisa loves being involved in the children’s and youth ministry at Countryside. She got involved with ROCK when it started and then moved to Bombs Away and CREW. Lisa met and fell in love with her whitewater loving husband Jim while she was working with middle schoolers at her home church in Kansas after college. A job offer for Jim took them to Texas for ten years, where son William and daughter Katie were born. In the fall of 2003 God provided a corporate move, the perfect house in Sherwood, and job transfers for both of them. She loves her work as Associate Director of Human Resources at George Fox University. Along with rafting, you will find Lisa and the family mountain biking and cross-country skiing. She looks to Philippians 3:13-14 as inspiration to keep her eyes on Jesus.
Susan Skyberg, Member At Large
Susan and her husband Jon have been members at CCC for about 10 years, and live in Newberg. Susan retired two years ago after 42 years as a nurse. She enjoys playing her piano, gardening, reading, and going on family road trips, along with some international travels. Jon and Susan have both been involved in small groups for 20 years and believe that is one of the best ways to know people well enough to share, care and pray for each other. Susan has enjoyed leading small groups at the Wednesday morning women’s Bible studies, along with serving on women’s ministry events and retreats. Susan is pleased to be asked to serve on the leadership team and knows the Lord can use her in this capacity to share His wisdom, encouragement and compassion with others.
Rod Kotel, Member At Large
Rod and his wife Lori grew up in the Midwest but met at the University of Oregon where they were married in 1982 on campus. They have 2 college age children, Zach and Sarah, and have been attending Countryside since 2005. Rod currently serves on the Men’s Leadership Team, the WOW Team and participates in the Thursday night Men’s Bible Study. Lori keeps busy working in the nursery twice a month caring for our precious little ones. Rod and his family enjoy spending time in the Bend-Redmond area hiking, golfing and enjoying the water.
