As we start a new year, the books of Ezra and Nehemiah do not offer us a tidy ending or pithy positivity. Instead, we find a deep tension between finding God's faithfulness in rebuilding the ruined temple and city of Jerusalem and discovering the ever rebellious and wandering heart of humans. But this tension is true for us now as well and in it we can continue to seek God and be transformed by Christ's love.
