A Time for Everything... (6/26/2022)

June 26, 2022 | Paul Duppenthaler

Life is full of changes, challenges... victories and defeats.  Sooner or later, we all experience many of the same ups and downs.  The Bible recognizes this and is quick to point this out in Ecclesiastes 3.  The difference between a child of God and an unbeliever is what the array of experiences means and accomplishes.  Today's sermon is a good reminder that our circumstances are not random, and God can and does use them for good IF we have put our life in the hands of His Son, Jesus.  In the midst of a change of pastors, cultural upheaval, and on the tail end of a global pandemic, it's nice to know that God is still with you and has a reason for every season you will go through.

A Time For Everything

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

  1. GOD HAS A  AND A  FOR EVERYTHING.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

  1. GOD HAS A BEAUTIFUL TIMELINE !

Ecclesiastes 3:11a  He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Galatians 4:4a But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son…

John 7:30 They sought to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

Romans 5:6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

  1. YET, NO ONE CAN  GOD’S WAYS.

Ecclesiastes 3:11b NLT He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.

“We are like the desperately nearsighted, inching their way along some great tapestry or fresco in the attempt to take it in.  We see enough to recognize something of its quality, but the grand design escapes us, for we can never stand back far enough to view it as its Creator does, whole and entire, from the beginning to the end.”  —Derek Kidner

Application #1   FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING GOOD!   IS A  FROM GOD.

Ecclesiastes 3:12–13 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat, and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.

Application #2   FIND COMFORT: GOD'S PLAN FOR YOU   INTO !

Ecclesiastes 3:14 I know that everything God does will endure forever;
nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

“Far from feeling cramped by His control of our lives,
we have the freedom to live today and to wait for tomorrow
knowing that God’s agenda is always what is best for us.”
David A. Hubbard

Our times are in Thy hand; O God, we wish them there.
Our life, our friends, our souls we leave, entirely to Thy care.
Our times are in Thy hand; why should we doubt or fear?
A Father’s hand will never cause His child a needless tear.
                                 --Charles Bridges

Series Information

The last words of the Apostle Paul included this admonition to the church via Timothy: Preach the Word. This series is a collection of sermons that do just that. As pastor Paul transitions to a new phase of ministry in retirement, these sermons represent the foundational truths he has tried to emphasize over the first 30 years of Countryside's ministry.
