O Come Thou Dayspring

December 12, 2021 | Paul Duppenthaler

Christmas lights are everywhere. If Jesus hadn't been born 2000 years ago, there would be no lights up. So whether people know it or not, they are at least indirectly promoting the One who called Himself "The Light of the World." In O Come, O Come Emmanuel, we sing O come Thou Dayspring. This message is all about Jesus being the dayspring, the rising sun, the dawn, the light of the world.

  1. JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.

John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”

  1. JOHN THE BAPTIST  ABOUT THE LIGHT.

John 1:6–8 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

  1. JESUS GIVES LIGHT TO .

John 1:9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

2 Cor. 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

  1. TRAGEDY IN ISRAEL: THEY .

John 1:10-11 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.

  1. GOOD NEWS, YOU ARE NOW ELIGIBLE TO BE !

John 1:12-13 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

WHERE CAN YOU SEE THE LIGHT OF JESUS?

  1. In the beauty and complexity of creation.
  1. In the words and worship of believers.
    Matthew 5:14–16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
  1. In the Word of God.

Rev 22:5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.
