The Joy of Generosity

The Joy of Generosity

December 13, 2020 | Paul Duppenthaler

Scrooge didn't like spending, but he hated giving even more! Spending is an exchange. We give up something to get something.  Giving is one way and results in joy.  Jesus said it all when He said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." Spending money on unnecessary things can rob us of joy, but giving almost always brings happiness for all. Today's message is about becoming un-Scrooged so that we can be wise spenders and joyful givers!

The Joy of Generosity

2 Cor. 9:1-15 NIV

  1. GENEROSITY IS KNOWING THAT YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.

2 Corinthians 9:6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

GENEROSITY IS WHEN YOU PLAN IT OUT IN ADVANCE.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

  1. GENEROSITY IS HE’LL KEEP YOU GOING.

2 Cor 9:8-11 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”  Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

  1. GENEROSITY  YOUR GOSPEL MINISTRY.

2 Cor 9:12-13 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

  1. GENEROSITY ENHANCES  RELATIONSHIPS.

2 Cor 9:14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you,
because of the surpassing grace God has given you.

  1. GENEROSITY IS A BIPRODUCT OF THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL: .

2 Cor 9:15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor,
so that you through his poverty might become rich.

  1. THIS CHRISTMAS:  SPEND LESS, SPEND WISELY, SPEND MORE TIME. GIVE GENEROUSLY FOR GOD’S GLORY AND YOUR JOY.

Series Information

A while back, a small group of pastors began to dream of a different kind of tomorrow. They dreamed of a different approach to the Christmas season for their churches and communities. As a result, a radically different approach to Christmas was born. As it is described on their website, “Advent Conspiracy is a global movement of people and churches resisting the cultural Christmas narrative of consumption by choosing a revolutionary Christmas through Worshipping Fully, Spending Less, Giving More, and Loving All.”
