Yet We Will Rejoice

February 06, 2022 | Paul Duppenthaler

It's not easy to be filled with joy when you're in the middle of any struggle, and yet the Bible makes it seem possible. Our natures usually resort to "Fight, Flight, or Freeze." These things might help us cope with the challenge, but won't fill our hearts with joy. Come and hear the secret of being able to rejoice as revealed in Habakkuk 3.

Yet We Will Rejoice

Habakkuk 3:3-19 NIV

1. WE WERE .

Ps. 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

2. WHEN IN DROUGHT,  TO YOURSELF.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Luke 15:20 While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled
with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

a. GOD IS . Hab 3:3–7

Deut 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his
covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.

b. GOD IS IN .  Hab 3:8-11

Psalm 135:6 The Lord does whatever pleases him,
in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.

c. GOD IS .  Hab 3:12-15

Ps 103:8,10,13 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him…

  1.  WITHOUT BEING CONTROLLED BY IT.

Hab 3:17-18 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

  1. BE COMPELLED AND STRENGTHENED BY .

2 Cor 5:14–15 NLT Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.

Habakkuk 3:19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.

Series Information

Why does God permit the righteous to suffer and the wicked to flourish? The small but important book of Habakkuk answers this question.  Does God know about the injustice of our world? Does He care? How are we to respond when injustice abounds in our world? How are we to respond when our prayers seemingly go unanswered? This series is full of good news that addresses these questions.
