About Us

Mission Statement

To make as many fully devoted followers of Christ as possible.

Our Core Beliefs

We regard the following beliefs as clearly set forth in the Scriptures, the Old and the New Testament, and as crucial to the understanding and proclamation of the Gospel and to practical Christian living:

1.  THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD

That God is sovereign, gracious, and loving in all His acts of creating, sustaining, and directing all things; in revealing Himself and His redemptive plans to the world; and in holding the world accountable to Him.

2.  THE BIBLE

That the Bible is the inspired Word of God, entirely truthful and trustworthy as originally given, and has supreme authority for governing what we believe, what we teach, and how we should live.

3.  THE TRINITY

That God is a trinity–the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—one God in three persons equal in power and glory from eternity.

4.  HUMAN LIFE

That God created human beings, male and female, in His own image, endowing them with dignity and worth, rendering human life sacred in all its diversity and dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death.

5.  HUMAN DEATH

That death is the consequence of humanity’s rebellion against God’s good rule, of which all people are guilty and subject to God’s judgment.

6.  ATONEMENT

That the atoning death of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God, is the sole ground of redemption from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin.

7.  JUSTIFICATION

That the justification of the sinner is by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ crucified alone.

8.  NEW BIRTH

That new birth by the Holy Spirit is necessary to make the atoning death of Christ effective to the individual believer as well as to stir up repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ.

9.  INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

That the true believer in Christ is indwelt with the Holy Spirit as a gift securing their eternal life, empowering them for God’s work, and conforming them into the likeness of Christ.

10. THE CHURCH

That the Church is a fellowship of all true believers manifest in multiple local congregations organized for worship, for fellowship, for the administration of the sacraments, for spiritual growth and support, for service, and for evangelizing the world.

11. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY

That marriage and family are institutions ordained by God for growth in Christ and the well-being of society, and are to be honored and kept pure by upholding the Christian standard of fidelity in monogamous, heterosexual marriage and celibacy in singleness.

12. THE FINAL RESURRECTION

That Jesus Christ is resurrected from the dead as the ruler of all things and will visibly return at the final resurrection as judge. Those who reject Christ in this life will be punished with everlasting destruction.  Those who trust in Christ in this life will live and reign with him in the new heavens and earth.

While the membership of Countryside Community Church retains ultimate authority in establishing our Core Beliefs, our Pastors on staff, acting in concert with the Leadership Team, have been entrusted with resolving any doctrinal disputes. Concerning matters in which the Bible is not sufficiently clear, we agree to give one another liberty while we hope through study, discussion, and prayer, that we might reach unity in the faith.

A Little History

Countryside was founded by Pastor Paul Duppenthaler, and a group of young families looking to establish a new church in the southwest Portland area. The first service was held at Tualatin High School in January of 1993. After a few years in Tualatin, the church was invited to share a facility with another church in Sherwood. After quickly outgrowing the building, it was on to Sherwood High School. Finally, in August of 2003 we moved in to our own facility. Because we value being a part of a larger association of churches, we are affiliated with the Evangelical Covenant Church, a rapidly growing multi-ethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world.
