Sealed by God

November 01, 2020 | Paul Duppenthaler

Everyone always talks about the "mark of the beast" but no one talks about the much greater, more prominent in Scripture "seal of God."  Today's message redirects our eschatological priority from the lesser to the greater.  This is really Great News!

Follow Along with the Message

Sealed By God

Revelation 7:1–3 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

SEALED FOR  .

Revelation 9:3–4 And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

SEALED FOR  .

2 Cor 1:21–22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

SEALED INTO  .

Eph 1:13–14 You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

“The symbolic character of John’s visions shows that we should not expect this seal to appear as a visible mark on believers’ physical foreheads. Rather, just as true circumcision is more than skin deep, reaching to the heart, so also the seal of ownership that marks us as God’s own possession is the Holy Spirit.”
-Dennis E. Johnson

SEALED AND ASSURED  .

Eph 4:30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

WHO IS SEALED?  144,000 REPRESENTS  .

Rev. 7:4 Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.

Rev. 3:12 NLT All who are victorious will become pillars in the Temple of my God, and they will never have to leave it. And I will write on them the name of my God, and they will be citizens in the city of my God—the new Jerusalem that comes down from heaven from my God. And I will also write on them my new name.

Rev. 7:9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.

Rev. 22:3–4 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

“Let believers wait patiently for this time of severest tribulation, knowing that all things are included in God’s decree; and know that when the world makes use of the sword in its warfare against the Church,
God Himself will avenge this wrong.  The individual who understands this will exercise endurance and will persevere in his faith.”
-Wm. Hendricksen

Series Information

In one sense, the whole Bible is apocalyptic! It is God's revelation of Himself and His Big Story! As we live through "apocalyptic" times, we need to know where we are in the Story, how can we thrive in it, and why we shouldn't be anxious about it.
